Gabriela Fundora has her next fight date made official for Saturday, January 27 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, AZ, where she faces Christina Cruz. Undefeated newly-crowned IBF flyweight champion makes the first defense of her belt against unbeaten contender. The pair battles it out on the card headlined by Jaime Munguia vs John Ryder.
Coachella-based Gabriela Fundora (12-0, 5 KOs) claimed the title against former champion Arely Mucino via fifth-round stoppage last October. In April and February 2023, the 21-year-old southpaw of Palm Beach, FL defeated Maria Micheo Santizo and Tania Garcia Hernandez by unanimous decision, respectively.
Fort Lauderdale-based Christina Cruz (6-0) was in action last October, when she scored a unanimous decision against Josefina Vega. In August and January 2023, the 41-year-old native of New York, NY similarly defeated Nancy Franco and Amy Salinas, respectively.
“I am ready and prepared for my first title defense and I feel like nothing can stop me from winning,” Gabriela Fundora said. “Christina Cruz is a good fighter, but I am building my legacy as a champion and no one can stop me.”
In the main event, Mexico’s former WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia (40-0, 33 KOs) takes on John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) of the UK. The pair squares off in a 12-round bout at super middleweight.
